Pentair Group Project: High-Precision Filtration Solution for Water Injection Systems
Project Background:
Pentair is a global leader in water treatment and process filtration solutions. During the secondary recovery stage of oil extraction, water injection is a key method for maintaining reservoir pressure and enhancing oil recovery. The quality of the injection water (whether seawater, produced water, or surface water) directly impacts reservoir permeability. Excessive particulate impurities can cause increased injection pressure, reservoir clogging, and even the loss of injection wells. Consequently, Pentair and its partners introduced highly reliable, fully automatic water injection filtration units.
Core Challenges:
- Reliability in Extreme Conditions: Water injection systems are often deployed on offshore platforms or remote onshore sites with harsh environments, requiring equipment with exceptional corrosion resistance and impact strength.
- Continuous High-Flow Operation: Injection operations run 24/7, demanding filters that provide high-precision filtration alongside minimal hydraulic loss and uninterrupted self-cleaning capabilities.
- Stringent Reservoir Protection: The system must stably intercept micron-level impurities to match specific pore structures, preventing any form of physical damage to the reservoir.
Our Solution:
Tailored to the technical specifications of the Pentair project, we deployed multiple sets of large-diameter fully automatic backwash filtration systems:
- Multi-element Backwash Technology: Utilizing a parallel multi-element structure, the single unit handles high throughput. When the pressure differential reaches a setpoint, the system backwashes individual elements sequentially while maintaining normal mainflow injection.
- High-Performance Material Selection: To counter the corrosivity of seawater injection, vessels and internals were made of Duplex Stainless Steel or featured advanced anti-corrosion coatings, ensuring protection against electrochemical corrosion during long cycles.
- Precision Wedge Wire Screen: High-strength V-shaped wedge wire screens provide uniform slots and resist clogging. The powerful back-pulse mechanism ensures thorough cleaning and regeneration of the filter media.
- Intelligent Control Unit: Integrated digital pressure and flow monitoring modules support connection to remote SCADA systems, enabling unattended operation and precise fault self-diagnosis.
Customer Value & Results:
Since the commissioning of the filtration system, average injection well pressures have remained stable, with zero reservoir clogging incidents caused by water quality fluctuations. The high degree of automation has significantly reduced the frequency of manual maintenance, and operational costs (OPEX) have decreased by over 20% compared to traditional processes. Pentair highly commended the system’s stable performance and superior craftsmanship, further strengthening the long-term partnership between the two parties in the oil and gas water treatment sector.
