Raw water enters the filter through the inlet (1) and first passes through the coarse filter screen (2), which protects the cleaning mechanism by removing large particles and impurities.
The water then flows through the fine filter screen (3), where suspended solids and contaminants are trapped on the inner surface of the screen. The filtered water exits through the outlet (4). As impurities accumulate and form a filter cake layer, the pressure differential gradually increases. When the differential pressure transmitter detects that the preset value has been reached, the automatic cleaning process is initiated.
During the self-cleaning process, the suction-type scanner (5) moves in a spiral pattern along the filter screen. When the drain valve opens, a high-speed suction flow is generated at the nozzle tip, effectively removing the accumulated filter cake from the screen surface.
The entire cleaning cycle typically takes 20–40 seconds, during which the main filtration process continues without interruption, ensuring continuous downstream water supply.
Fluid enters the filter and solid particles are captured by the filter element.
When preset pressure or time is reached, the system automatically initiates backwashing.
Removed particles are flushed out through the drain outlet.
Differential pressure is continuously monitored to detect filter contamination.
Clean fluid flows in reverse direction to remove trapped contaminants from the filter surface.
The system resumes normal filtration without interrupting operation.

An Automatic Suction-type Filter is a self-cleaning filtration system that removes contaminants from liquids by using a suction scanner or nozzle that travels along the filter element surface to extract and discharge accumulated solids.
During operation, fluid passes through the filter element while solids are retained. When cleaning is triggered by pressure differential or timer, a suction nozzle moves across the filter surface, creating localized reverse flow that removes debris and discharges it from the system.

For a large chemical plant in the Dalian Development Zone, UNITE supplied a modular automatic self-cleaning filtration unit for high-flow circulating cooling-water purification and reuse. The system combines stainless-steel wedge-wire screens, motor-driven suction or brush cleaning, automatic blowdown, differential-pressure and timer triggers, PLC control, touchscreen monitoring, remote communication, and corrosion-resistant construction. The reported result was an extension of heat-exchanger cleaning and maintenance cycles by more than 50%, together with zero manual intervention for automatic blowdown.
