Pipe filters are divided into Y-type pipe filters and T-type pipe filters.
The Y filter mechanically removes unwanted solid particles from liquid,gas, or steam pipelines using a perforated or wire mesh filter element,thereby protecting downstream process system components.
T-type filters are commonly used to protect pumps or in otherapplications with low solid particle content, and offer several advantagescompared to other pipeline filter designs. Their compact design makes
them ideal for applications with limited space, and they can be installedvertically or horizontally. Furthermore, the container does not need tobe drained when cleaning the filter. They are also suitable forstraight-through or right-angle flow applications and are ideal forretrofitting existing systems.

Passage Through the Screen: These fluids must pass through a filtration screen (typically a metal mesh).
Impurity Retention: Solid particles and impurities larger than the screen's mesh openings are intercepted by the screen and retained within the filter.
Clean Fluid Outflow: After passing through the screen, the clean fluid exits through a separate outlet, continuing its flow into downstream piping or equipment.
Periodic Cleaning: Over time, impurities accumulate on the screen, making it increasingly difficult for the fluid to pass through (resulting in reduced flow rates and pressure drops). At this point, the filter must be opened to remove the screen for cleaning or replacement.
